Glowing Coals
a research publication on creation processes
About Glowing Coals
Glowing Coals is a research publication about creation processes within the context of a Bachelor’s programme for circus arts. The study is limited to the period 2016 - 2021, in the context of the trilogy: LIFE, My name is Wollek and ELLE, three co-creations with Roberto Magro as guest director at Codarts Circus Arts.
Each creation, rehearsal or presentation progresses differently and even after the production in question is no longer performed, traces of the creative process remain consciously or unconsciously. And then the question arises: can people include these experiences in the next process and how they can evolve further?
Supplementary to this publication Saskia Habermann has realised the documentary “The making of ELLE”, which will be screened in the presentation.
Glowing Coals came about through helpful cooperation from following partners: Korzo, Festival Circolo, Rotterdam Circusstad, TENT, Theater op de Markt, PERPLX and Circuscentrum. We look forward to entering into further dialogue together about new proposals and perspectives.

In his work, he focuses on object manipulation and magie nouvelle. By working with Lucho Smit and Nicanor de Elia during his third and fourth year at Codarts, he experienced different creation methods and became inspired to conduct further research into the ways of creating and pushing boundaries of contemporary circus. With his solo piece CM_30 he was shortlisted for circusnext 2020-2021 and is co-author and performer of Sawdust Symphony, a collective creation with Michael Zandl and David Eisele. Besides his own artistic practice, he works for BUZZ - Bundesverband Zeitgenössischer Zirkus and is co-founder and coordinator of Zirkus ON, the first German development programme for contemporary circus.

Supplementary to this publication Saskia Habermann has realised the documentary “The making of ELLE”, which will be screened in the presentation.
